Oktoberfest in Munich & sailing in Sardinia!

Our Oktoberfest experience began at the Schottenhamel tent around 11 AM. We indulged in hearty pretzels, sausages, schnitzel, and the best Spaten beer we'd ever tasted.

Afterward, we ventured to the Schutzen-festzelt tent, a decision that would prove to be one of the best of trip. The tent was packed with people singing along to a band perched on a platform above the crowd. Everyone was standing on benches and tables, swaying and belting out songs. We had seen a TikTok video of this tent and were determined to experience it firsthand.

Once inside, we joined the revelry, dancing, singing, and making our way through the crowd until we found ourselves directly beneath the band. We danced and sang for hours drinking giant beers that left our arms sore by the end of the night. The crowd went wild when the band played Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline," which we learned is an Oktoberfest favorite. We were blown away by how much fun Oktoberfest was, even for those who aren't particularly fond of beer or crowds. After a day of celebrating at Oktoberfest, we walked back to our hotel, pausing to climb a church tower for a breathtaking aerial view of the festival.

After the crisp autumn air of Munich, Sardinia's perfect 78-degree weather was a refreshing change. We arrived at Mascaratu Country Houses in Arzachena, located in the northeastern part of the island. Our friends Sisi, the owner of Mascaratu, and Barbara, who had joined us from Milan, welcomed us with a toast of champagne and appetizers

We spent our days sailing through the stunning Maddalena archipelago, swimming in the crystal-clear waters like mermaids, and jumping off the boat to explore hidden coves.

We loved strolling through the charming town of San Pantaleo for an aperitivo and a bit of shopping.

We could not get enough Vermentino, the refreshingly crisp regional wine.

Our time in Sardinia at Mascaratu Country Houses was magical. We fell deeply in love with Sardinia and can't wait to return soon.
